(Sniff!) Day 9 over...

...and the re-feeding starts tomorrow (well, at dinner time, and it's only a thicker soup, but still...the party's coming to an end shortly).

Rather than report the day's activities (I suppose there will be at least one picture and a peaceful video from my 2-hour group walk this afternoon), perhaps better to address a dear friend's question of whether this is a bit much of an effort for two absolutely regularly healthy people.

It's certainly true that both Vicky and I are substantially lower in mass then when we started this process, and I won't complain about using one more hole in my belt than I have had to, probably since the beginning of the COVID sloth and wine-drinking! But aside from a few clients here who are medically overweight, the central goal isn't weight loss but rather the metabolic reset (switching from sugar burning system to fat-burning) and more importantly, the detox that comes along with greater than a handful of days in a fasted state. Some of that's in the WTAF? post at the outset of the blog, and of course, follow any of the links to Buchinger Wilhelmi - or even my old pal Mark Sisson's marksdailyapple.com, or heck, a little search on the ol' Googs - for much more and better cases than I can make.

I just wanted to say that even though today was another small decline in weight - I'm down around 160 lbs from the initial weigh-in at 173 - historically this isn't worrisome. Sure, Boston Marathon, going for PR time weight of around 155 lbs (wow, that was a long time ago - early 2000s?) was pretty thin, but even at that low, I not only had good muscle mass, my fat to lean-mass ratio was still close to 10 percent, a fact I only learned because that was a necessary input when I couldn't help myself from consulting with the St. Thomas's athletic science lab to find out my VO2 max.  (and yes, I love the geeky stuff as always)

Point being, long term average for me in last 20 years has been around 165 lbs, and that's including lots of business travel and high living, despite the consistent tide of gymming, tennis, Pilates, and activity-verging-on-hyperactivity that is my life. Hopefully, we'll keep some of the fat loss benefits with us, but the far more important thing is the slowed down consciousness of not just what we're eating (and why) but also more generally what we're doing...yep, and why!  See below for the usual stats and, as promised, your moment of Zen...
