2024 Fast Day One

Back in harness, and full speed ahead. Although, being rigorously honest, 'full-speed' this year feels a lot slower than it did one year ago.

Maybe the excitement and mystery of all the shiny new toy-effect of first-timer syndrome had me missing it, but on this first day of the real fast this time around, I definitely noticed myself feeling more than a little bit slow and heavy in the head as the day went on.

And that had nothing to do with the absolutely gorgeous weather, to wit: (pictures chronologically through the day, for those keeping score at home)

View from our balcony in the morning - aaaaah!

Vicky and our friend Verena from last year in later afternoon

Right back to the vegetable consomme - fennel tonight

Tourist restaurant on Überlingen boardwalk Friday evening - wowzah!

Same lake walk in the other direction

We had lots to do in addition to sightseeing, including on the medical front the big blood draw for full battery of tests (results to come Monday, but Vicky and I were pronounced fit-to-fast after good, long doctor interview yesterday afternoon) plus - of course! - the dose of Glauber salts to empty the lower intestine and communicate in no uncertain terms to the body that yes indeed, we are fasting.

Given the medical attention, there wasn't much time for other treatments, but I managed to see my favourite meditation instructor Gilbert Grimeau for the morning session of awareness training and - even though feeling pretty weak and slow - swam some laps in the sunny afternoon. Vicky walked to town a couple of times, one trip solely to pick up new cards for bridge in the evening, and we made the slow procession through the lakeside district you saw above after our fennchelsuppe at dinner time in order to try not to fall asleep quite at 8:30pm! For those interested, managed to make it almost to 10...
